Cairo-Durham boys hold off Taconic Hills

CAIRO -- Noah Justice scored 21 points to help Cairo-Durham post a 58-51 victory over Taconic Hills in Thursday's Patroon Conference boys basketball game.

The Mustangs looked to be on their way to an easy night after taking a 20-8 first-quarter lead, but securing the victory was anything but easy as Taconic Hills fought back to within 24-22 at halftime and 34-33 after three quarters. Cairo-Durham was finally able to put the game away with a 24-18 scoring edge over the final eight minutes.

Jake Hall added 12 points to Cairo-Durham's cause. Louis Laregina had eight.

"This was a good end of the season win for us," Cairo-Durham coach Keith Phillips said. "The kids worked hard  and have done so all season. I'm very proud of them. It's going to be tough to replace the boys (three seniors), they are good kids, god defenders and big offensive threats. We have a lot of kids in the program right now, though. We have a big JV team. In years past we've been a little short on players but I think we are going to start filling the roster a little better and have more opportunities to expand out teams."

Kolby Clegg paced the Titans with 18 points.Devon Charron chipped in with 13 and Trevor New had 11.

Bishop Maginn 47, Germantown 45

ALBANY -- Bishop Maginn jumped out to a big  lead in the first half, then held off a late charge from Germantown to post a 47-45 Central Hudson Valley League boys basketball victory on Thursday.

The Griffins took a 21-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and were up 33-8 at halftime. The Clippers came back in the second half to outscore Maginn, 27-14, but fell short.

Bryan Bathrick led Germantown (10-1, 13-5) with 20 points. Dan Kellenbenz added 18.

Anthony Davis had 13 points for Maginn. Treylan Cortina and Kurtis McMullen each had 10.

GERMANTOWN (45): Anderson 1-1-3, Eaton 0-0-0, A. Kellenbenz 1-2-4, Bathrick 7-2-20, D. Kellenbenz 8-1-18. Totals 17-6-45.

Germantown 3, Catskill 0

GERMANTOWN — Germantown improved to 14-0 in Patroon Conference volleyball with a 3-0 victory over Catskill on Thursday.

The Clippers posted winning scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-18.

For Germantown, Jeremy Cosenza had 2 kills, 24 assists, 2 aces, 3 digs and 1 block. Riley Griffin had 15 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace, 2 digs and 1 block; Anthony Smith 2 kills and 2 blocks; Chris Diamanti 4 kills, 2 assists, 3 aces and 1 dig; Nick Comesanas 4 kills, 3 aces and 5 digs; Matt Bogert 4 kills, 2 aces, 1 dig and 1 block.

Germantown hosts Greenville on Wednesday at 6 p.m. 

Hudson 3, Chatham 1

HUDSON -- Corey Topple had 32 points to spark Hudson to a 3-1 victory over Chatham in Thursday's Patroon Conference volleyball match.

Hudson dropped the first game, 25-22, but came back to sweep the next three 25-18, 25-21 and 25-18.

Charles Goodermote added 23 points as Hudson improved to 11-3. Nick Bernockie had 13 and Emmett Fairbairn 11.

Hudson visits Taconic Hills on Tuesday.

Ichabod Crane 3, Voorheesville 2

VALATIE — Ichabod Crane earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Vooreesville in Patroon Conference volleyball action on Thursday.

The Riders (11-4) took the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-22, but the Blackbirds regrouped and took the next two,25-21 and 29-27 to even up the match. ICC took the fifth set, 15-11, to pull out the victory.

For the Riders, Jim Konderwich had 9 kills and 3 blocks; Harrison Puckett 13 assists, 9 kills and 6 digs; Trevor Wolfe 20 assists, 3 aces and 3 digs; Jake Siter 8 kills and 3 digs; Donte Northrup 9 digs, 2 aces and 1 kill; Dean Warner 8 kills and 5 blocks; Logan Groat 1 kill and 1 dig; JanKarl Galia 13 digs; Bobby Boll 1 ace and 1 dig and Camdyn Ames 1 kill.

Greenville 3, Coxsackie-Athens 1

GREENVILLE — Greenville recorded a 3-1 victory over Coxsackie-Athens in Thursday’s Patroon Conference volleyball action.

The Spartans took the first two sets, 25-15 and 26-24, lost the third, 25-23, then wrapped up the match with a 25-20 win in the fifth set.

“The teams were evenly matched and played passionate volleyball,” Greenville coach Glenn Evans said. “I’m very proud of my seniors, who stepped it up and played great volleyball on Senior Night. Coxsackie-Athens is a young team and greatly improved since our last match."

Greenville improved to 9-8.



Hudson 5, Chatham 0

EAST GREENBUSH — Matt Bowes rolled a 201-527 to highlight Hudson’s 5-0 victory over Chatham in Patroon Conference bowling action on Thursday at East Greenbush Bowling Center.

Zach Porreca added a 188-485 to the Bluehawks’ cause.

Tyler Beaudry had a 214-545 for the Panthers. Andrew Duso chipped in with a 173-462.

Cairo-Durham 5, Taconic Hills 0

GREAT BARRINGTON — Phil Decker fired a 674 series to lead cairo-Durham to a 5-0 victory over Taconic Hills in Patroon Conference bowling action on Thursday.

Decker hit games of 226, 255 and 193 for the Mustangs. Steve Maggio added a 158 single.

Anthony Genovese spun a 202-487 for the Titans. Carmen Morales contributed a 151-401.

Cairo-Durham had games of 774, 817 and 811 for a total pinfall of 2,402. Taconic Hills rolled a 649, 738 and 677 for 2,064.
